Quick tips for your dance studio recital introduction speech

It’s important to start off your recital with a solid introduction speech for several reasons:

  • The audience expects to be welcomed
  • A great introduction reinforces your studio’s excellence
  • You should convey your theater rules
  • It’s a great chance to mention upcoming summer camps, next season’s registration, and any lobby concessions you might have
  • Congratulating graduating seniors can help retention
  • It’s an opportunity to thank your teachers, staff, and your dance parents

A great dance studio recital introduction should cover these bases. The duration should be however long it takes to get across this important welcoming information, but it should also be as short as possible. If it’s too long or boring, your audience will get antsy waiting for the real stars of the show… their kids.

Many dance studio owners would rather not give a recital opening speech themselves. That’s one reason why so many SOs are having me create a Welcome Soundtrack for their recitals. A Squirrel Trench Welcome Soundtrack is the fun, creative, and professional way to set the stage for your studio’s theme and performances. I even can tailor the Welcome Soundtrack to go seamlessly into your opening number.

And best of all, you don’t have to deliver the message on-stage yourself. Your audience will be delighted when you open your recital, show, or showcase with a Squirrel Trench Welcome Soundtrack.

Here are just a few of the many fun and creative themed Welcome Soundtracks I’ve created:

Airline Welcome Soundtrack (pilot/flight attendant)

Jukebox Welcome Soundtrack (Radio DJ)

Circus Welcome Soundtrack (carnival barker)

Television Welcome Soundtrack (Late Night Talk Show host)

Mary Poppins Welcome Soundtrack

Santa/Holiday Welcome Soundtrack

Revealing the Royals – Desiree’s Dancers

Choreographer/teacher Desiree Johnson runs Desiree’s Dancers in David City, Nebraska, a subsidiary of Barb’s School of Dance in Columbus, Nebraska. Desiree contacted me about a year ago to craft a custom remix for her production called Revealing the Royals. Assistant choreographers for this routine were Melinda Allen, Becky Brandenburg, and Kayla Hollatz. Here is a video of this four-minute masterpiece. Congratulations to Desiree and all of her dancers on a spectacular creation!

Lyrical dance music with an anti-bullying message

violin-red-roseBullying is an all-too-common problem for young people as they enter middle school and high school. Dance can be very therapeutic and helpful to relieve the anxiety of bullying tendencies, and art is always a great way to get through with a message. Squirrel Trench Audio has put together a soundtrack that could serve as the musical foundation for your lyrical dance conveying an anti-bullying message. The music is a shortened version of Vitamin String Quartet doing a cover version of “I’ll Stand By You” originally written by Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders.

In addition, we have a the same version of “I’ll Stand By You”, but without the added dialogue here:

Creative remixes for dance

Britney Spears beautiful new lookBesides delivering structurally-sound remixes of single songs, perhaps my favorite music editing project is a creative custom remix. These come in many forms. I just finished a remix of four Britney Spears songs for a large competitive group at a studio in Georgia, and I’m about to begin on a “Dance Through The Ages” remix for a non-competitive studio in New Jersey. And if you are looking for a two-part cheer music edit, that is no problem as well. Other custom remixes I’ve finished include a Pixie Hollow theme, a Mary Poppins mash-up, a Wizard of Oz retelling, a train medley, an evocative drum journey, a Beatles remix inspired by the Cirque du Soleil masterpiece Love, and many more.

If you are looking for some fresh new ideas in music to give yourself a creative boost for your next choreographic masterpiece, then shoot me an email. Prices for these custom remixes depend on the complexity, but typically run between $74 and $149.
